Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Financial Coach?
A Financial Coach works with you to understand your financial goals, designs a plan to help you achieve them, and provides you with the knowledge, encouragement, and accountability to execute the plan.
How is a Financial Coach different from a Financial Advisor?
Financial Advisors actively manage your money and can recommend specific securities. Financial Coaches work with you to create an end-to-end plan for all your personal finance goals and keep you on track. As your Financial Coach, I won't manage your investment portfolio, but I will provide you with the knowledge and skills to build steady, long term, and sustainable wealth.
What kind of financial issues can you help me with?
As your Financial Coach, I will help you overcome whatever is holding you back from achieving financial freedom. Common coaching topics include:
Personal finance education & literacy, cash flow planning & budgeting, getting out of debt, handling debt collectors, premarital financial coaching, couples financial coaching, building an emergency fund, investing for wealth building & retirement, maximizing your employer benefits, saving for college, estate planning & insurance, buying and selling your house, buying and selling your car, negotiating higher compensation, getting promoted/advancing your career, increasing profit in your small business, teaching kids the fundamentals of money, handling an inheritance, managing money after a divorce, spending & giving generously
How much does it cost?
The base rate is $300 per month. This includes a 30-minute discovery call, a transformational 1-hour coaching session, and direct access to my cell for quick calls or texts. For longer-term, in-depth coaching engagements, please visit our Book Coaching page for pricing.
Can we meet in person or are all meetings virtual?
Most meetings take place virtually on Zoom, Facetime, or by phone. But if you are local to Powhatan, I'd love to meet in person.
How can I afford to pay for Coaching if I'm struggling financially?
During our first coaching session, I'm confident we'll find the financial coaching fee in your budget. The average non-millionaire spends $280 monthly eating out and $219 on subscriptions. I'll happily refund you if we can't find the coaching fee in your budget.
How do I get my spouse on board?
I encourage all of my married clients to bring their spouse to coaching sessions. Money in marriage can be tricky and there's no silver bullet. But I can help you understand why you're not connecting and give you the tools to find financial harmony in your marriage.
What should I be prepared to bring for a Coaching session?
After you book your complimentary consult or coaching session, I'll send you a short financial health form to get a snapshot of where you are at this stage of your journey and where I can best serve you. I'll also study and review any additional information you think would be relevant or beneficial for our coaching call prior to meeting.
Can you guarantee this will work?
I'm fully committed to providing you with the knowledge, tools, and encouragement you need to overcome whatever financial challenge you are facing. But nothing is guaranteed. Your success will largely depend on how coachable, committed, and disciplined you are.
Do you offer refunds?
During our first coaching session, I'm confident we'll find the financial coaching fee in your budget. If we can't, I'll happily issue you a full refund.
Where do you offer your Financial Coaching services?
Powhatan Financial serves our local community in Powhatan, the greater Richmond area, and all 50 states in the US.
Will you protect my privacy?
Personal finance is personal. As your Financial Coach, I take your privacy and confidentiality very seriously and will never disclose or discuss any of your personal finance matters with anyone other than you (and your spouse if you are doing couples coaching).
